Chief Minister of Meghalaya launched the ‘Walk to Work’ campaign in the state. The campaign is a part of Fit India Movement which has been launched in the country by the Prime Minister.

On September 1, 2019, The Central Government has accepted the resignation of Anshula Kant, Managing Director (MD) of State Bank of India (SBI). This comes after her appointment as the MD and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of World Bank Group.

The 50 th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) will be started on 20 th November 2019 in Panaji, Goa and will be continued till 28 th November 2019. The theme of IFFI 2019 is Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat. The festival is conducted jointly by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Directorate of Film Festivals and the Government of Goa.

The government announced that the four major bank mergers. The merger of 10 public sector banks to be merged into four was announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. After the merger, there will now be 12 public sector banks after the latest round of consolidation of PSU banks.

Bangladesh signed an agreement with Reliance Power of India on September 1, 2019 to set up 750 Mega Watt  gas-based power plant in Meghnahat near Dhaka. The construction of the plant will be completed by 2022.

Research Designs and Standards Organization, a research wing of Indian Railways has organized the “Mega Vendor Meet 2019” at Lucknow.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated the 5th edition of Aqua Aquaria India 2019, which is organized by the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The event was held at HITEX exhibition center in Hyderabad from 30th August to 1st September. The theme of the 2019 edition is “To take Blue Revolution to India’s hinterland”. The event showcased the recent advances in aquaculture and ornamental fish breeding / rearing technology for encouraging diversification and promotes intensification in a sustainable manner. It is a biennial exhibition. Aqua Aquaria also showcased the diversification of potential species like sea-bass, Tilapia, Mud crab, which will boost the export-oriented aquaculture.

Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan visited Moscow, Russia from August 29-30, 2019 on the invitation of Minister of Energy of Russian Federation Mr Alexander Novak to strengthen bilateral relationship between India and Russia in energy and steel sectors.

On 31 August 2019, in order to redress grievances and address various tax related issues in the cases of Start-ups, a ‘Start-up Cell’ has been constituted by Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). As a part of the measures for mitigating the genuine difficulties of Start-ups, it was decided that a dedicated cell would be set up under a member of CBDT for addressing the specific problems of Start-ups.

The West Bengal State Assembly passed West Bengal (Prevention of Lynching) Bill, 2019. The Bill aims to prevent and punish mob assaults and lynching. The state government mentioned that the Bill was passed as the Centre has failed to take the initiative.

The Uttarakhand government has decided to form a Special Tiger Force for Corbett Tiger Reserve. The STPF will serve as a second layer of protection for tigers at the Corbett Tiger Reserve.

Aparna Kumar, a 2002 batch Uttar Pradesh Cadre IPS officer, has been honoured with the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award 2018. With this, she became the first IPS officer to be bestowed with this prestigious award. Currently, she is posted as DIG in Indo Tibetan Police Force at Dehradun. This is the highest National award at par with Arjuna award for Adventure sports in India. The award is given in 4 categories – Land, Water, Air Adventure and Lifetime achievement. The awards are given by the Government of India (GoI) with an aim to encourage young people to develop the spirit of endurance, risk-taking, cooperative teamwork and quick, ready and effective reflexes in tough situations. Besides Aparna, five more personalities also received the award. The other personalities are late Dipankar Ghosh, Manikandan K, Prabhat Raju Koli, RameshwerJangra and Wangchuk Sherpa. The awardees received a statuette, certificates and cash award of Rs. 5 lakh each.

In the 46th meeting of the Central Approval and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) for the year 2019, which was chaired by Shri Durga Shanker Mishra, Secretary, Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs in New Delhi, approved 865 proposals from 10 States for the construction of 2.99 lakh houses with an overall investment of Rs. 15,109 cr. The Central assistance will be Rs. 4,482 crore.
