Madhvendra Singh has been named the first Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Gujarat Maritime Cluster by Gujarat Ports Infrastructure Company Limited. The Gujarat Marine Cluster (GMC) is the country’s first Commercial Maritime Cluster of its sort, with the goal of becoming a centre for maritime services of world standards.

The Mughal Gardens in New Delhi’s Rashtrapati Bhavan were christened ‘Amrit Udyan’ by the Central Government on January 28, 2023. In keeping with the concept of ‘Amrit Mahotsav,’ which marks the 75th anniversary of India’s independence, the Central government renamed Mughal Gardens Amrit Udyan.

India and South Africa inked a Memorandum of Understanding on January 27, 2023, to introduce 12 African Cheetahs every year for the next eight to ten years. According to the agreement, an initial batch of 12 cheetahs will be transported from South Africa to India next month. The cats will be added to the eight Cheetahs imported to India from Namibia last year.

Khelo India Youth Games to commence on 30th January 2023 at Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh. Till 11th February 2023, the Khelo India Youth Games will continue.

Aryna Sabalenka defeated Elena Rybakina in the final, 4–6, 6–3, 6–4 to win the women’s singles tennis title at the 2023 Australian Open. It was her first major singles title. Sabalenka dropped just one set during the tournament.

Germany’s team won the Hockey World Cup 2023 title, defeating Belgium in the Shootout. The match was held on 29th January 2023 at Bhubaneswar, Odisha of India. The actual scores of both teams were 3-3. But, in shootout, the Germany scored 5 goals and Belgium scored only 4 goals. After Austrralia and Netherlands, Germany became the Third team to won Hockey World cup Three Teams. Germany won Hockey world cup in 2002 and 2006.

Novak Djokovic, Serbia Star won the Australian Open 2023 Men’s Singles Title by defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas. In 2008, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2019, 2020, 2021, the Novak Djokovic won the Australian Open Men’s Singles Title.

India defeated England by seven wickets in the final to win the Inaugural Under 19 Women’s T20 World Cup organized by ICC. India dismissed England for 68 and chased down the target in 14 overs. It’s the first time an Indian Women’s team to won ICC Tournament. India had finished runners-up at Women’s world cup in 2005 and 2017 and Women’s T20 world cup in 2020.

The Visible Line Emission Coronagraph (VELC) payload for the Aditya-L1 mission was handed over to ISRO by the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) on January 26, 2023, at the Centre for Research and Education in Science and Technology (CREST) Campus at Hosakote, near Bengaluru. The VELC payload was conceived and built on the CREST site. At URSC, the payload would be integrated with the satellite.

Indian-American Astronaut Raja J Chari has been nominated for the appointment of Air Force Brigadier General in the American Air Force. It is a United States Air Force one-star General Officer rank, slightly above Colonel and below Major General. Chari is now the Commander and Astronaut for Crew-3 at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Johnson Space Center in Texas.

On the eve of Republic Day, the Centre announced the Padma Awards. 06 Padma Vibhushans, 09 Padma Bhushan, and 91 Padma Shris were among the 106 Padma awards. 19 of the honorees are female. Former Samajwadi Party chairman Mulayam Singh Yadav will be awarded the Padma Vibhushan in the category of public affairs posthumously. The President bestows these honours during ceremonial festivities held in Rashtrapati Bhawan in March and April of each year.

The Assam Cabinet has decided to book men who marry minor girls under stringent laws prescribing imprisonment from two years to life. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said an average of 31.8% of girls in Assam get married at the prohibited age and 11.7% of them become mothers before adulthood, higher than the national average.

Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Health Minister, launched the world’s first intranasal COVID-19 vaccine, iNNCOVACC, in New Delhi on January 27, 2023. Bharat Biotech International Limited (BBIL) created it in conjunction with Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance (BIRAC). The vaccine was unveiled in the presence of Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (IC) for Science and Technology, and other authorities.

Indian batsman Suryakumar Yadav has been selected as the ICC T20 Cricketer of the Year for the year 2022 for his stellar performance. Suryakumar Yadav beat Zimbabwe all-rounder Sikander Raza, Pakistan wicket-keeper batsman Mohammad Rizwan, and England all-rounder Sam Curran to win the award. Suryakumar Yadav scored 1164 runs in 31 T20 matches played in 2022 and also became only the second batsman in T20 history to score more than 1000 runs in a calendar year. Yadav hit 68 sixes in 2022, the most by any batsman in a single year in the history of the format.

Prasar Bharati and the National Media Authority of Egypt inked an MoU to promote content sharing, capacity building, and co-productions on January 25, 2023. The agreement was signed by Anurag Singh Thakur, Minister of Information and Broadcasting, and Sameh Hassan Shoukry, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Government of Egypt. The agreements were signed in New Delhi in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

Chris Hipkins was sworn in as the 41st Prime Minister of New Zealand in Wellington by the country’s governor-general, Cindy Kiro on January 25, 2023. Chris Hipkins stated after formally assuming office that this was the greatest honor and responsibility of his life, and he was looking forward to the challenges ahead. Jacinda Ardern resigned as Prime Minister of New Zealand last week.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched several projects related to water security, farmers’ welfare and road connectivity in Karnataka. He launched Narayanpur’s left bank canal with a modern irrigation system at Yadgir in North Karnataka. It is implemented for 4699 crore rupees and will help irrigate over five lakh hectares in the backward regions of Yadgir, Raichur and Kalburgi.

The current world champion Magnus Carlsen won’t play in the 2023 FIDE World Chess Championship. Ian Nepomniachtchi and Ding Liren will battle to seize the throne of the World Champion.

As part of the Republic Day celebrations, the six-day mega event Bharat Parv will be held at the Red Fort in Delhi from the 26th to the 31st of this month. According to the Union Tourism Ministry, some of the top Republic Day Parade tableaux will be displayed throughout the event. There will also be cultural performances by Zonal Cultural Centres as well as cultural troupes from States and Union Territories, a pan-India Food Court, and a Crafts Bazaar with 65 crafts vendors.

The first India Stack Developer Conference will be hosted in New Delhi on January 25, 2023. The conference will focus on strategies and techniques to increase global acceptance of India’s digital goods. Over 100 digital leaders from industry, government, start-ups and unicorns, and academia will attend the conference. G20 delegates and the G20 Secretariat have also been invited to the Conference.

47 soldiers have been given Fire Service Medals on the occasion of Republic Day 2023. The Fire Service Medal for Gallantry is given to two people for acts of heroism and gallantry. For their excellent and meritorious service records, the President’s Fire Service Medal for Distinguished Service is bestowed to 07 persons and the Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service is awarded to 38 personnel.

India International Science Festival is being held in Bhopal with the theme of ‘Marching towards Amrit Kaal with Science, Technology, and Innovation’. The International Science Film Festival of India (ISFFI) was organised as a part of the India International Science Festival (IISF). Nine Indian science movies received awards in various categories at an international film festival.

On January 25, 2023, the Election Commission of India will observe the 13th National Voters’ Day. This year’s NVD theme, ‘Nothing Like Voting, I Vote for Sure,’ is devoted to voters and reflects individuals’ feelings and aspirations towards involvement in the democratic process through the power of their vote. The logo is intended to convey the festiveness and inclusiveness of the voting process.

The first-ever joint exercise between the special forces of the Indian Army and the Egyptian Army was named ‘Exercise Cyclone-I’. The Joint Training Exercise is in progress at Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. This is the first exercise of its kind bringing the special forces of both nations on a common platform.

Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani met with this year’s Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar awardee children and their parents in New Delhi on January 24, 2023. The prizes were given to 11 youngsters for their outstanding achievements in six categories: art, culture, bravery, innovation, social service, and sports. Six boys and five girls from 11 states and union territories received awards. Each awardee got a medal, a one lakh rupee cash prize, and a certificate from the President.

Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Communications, Electronics and Information Technology, and Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Education, successfully tested the ‘BharOS,’ a Made in India mobile operating system created by IIT Madras. JandK Operations Private Limited created the BharOS, an Android Open Source Project-based operating system.

Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand and An Se Young of South Korea won the India Open 2023 singles championships in New Delhi. In men’s singles, eighth-seeded Vitidsarn defeated world number one and top seed Viktor Axelsen 22-20, 10-21, 21-12, while in women’s singles, second-seeded Young defeated world number one and top seed Akane Yamaguchi 15-21, 21-16, 21-12.

The India-Bangladesh Friendship pipeline (IBFPL) will start supplying diesel to Bangladesh on an experimental basis in June this year. About 131.5-kilometre long pipeline has been constructed for importing diesel from India. Out of this, 126.5-kilometre pipeline is in Bangladesh and the 5-kilometre line is in India. The international pipeline will carry diesel from the Siliguri-based marketing terminal of the Numaligarh Refinery Limited to the Parbatipur depot of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC).
