According to DGCA officials, India has jumped to the 48th position in the global aviation safety ranking by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Four years ago, the country was ranked in the 102nd position. In the ranking, Singapore is at the top, followed by the UAE and South Korea at the second and third positions, respectively, the officials said. China is in 49th place. Under its Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme (USOAP) Continuous Monitoring Approach, an ICAO Coordinated Validation Mission (ICVM) was undertaken from November 9 to 16. The country’s score in terms of effective implementation of key safety elements has improved to 85.49 per cent, the officials said.

Japan has successfully used steam to propel its Equuleus spacecraft. The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (Jaxa) claimed that this is the world’s first successful orbit control beyond low-Earth orbit using a water propulsion system. Meanwhile, after flying past the Moon, the spacecraft used an engine name Aquarius which uses water as fuel to get to the second Earth-Moon Lagrange point.

A polling booth located in a remote forest area of Gir Somnath district in Gujarat recorded 100 per cent voting after its lone voter cast his vote in the first phase of the state Assembly elections. The area is part of the Una Assembly constituency, which went to polls along with 88 other seats in the state. The Election Commission (EC) had set up a polling booth at Banej village located inside Gir forest so that the only voter there can exercise his franchise. Mahant Haridasji Udasin, who is the only voter there, reached the polling station in the initial hours of voting. The EC sets up a polling booth during every Assembly or general election.

South Korea’s Mina Sue Choi was crowned Miss Earth 2022 during the pageant’s coronation night on November 29 at Cove Manila, Okada Hotel, Parañaque City. There were 86 Eco-warriors, and only three queens were awarded the pageant’s three elements titles. Miss Fire 2022 is Andrea Aguilera of Columbia, Miss Water 2022 is Nadeen Ayoub of Palestine, and Miss Air 2022 is Sheridan Mortlock of Australia. During the pre-pageant activities, Choi bagged a few medals too. She won resort wear, long gown, beach wear, and swimsuit competition. This is the 22nd edition of the annual international competition organized by Carousel Production to promote environmental protection. It also sought ambassadors to mount projects that help save the planet.

Airline EasyJet and Aircraft Engine maker Rolls-Royce announced that they have successfully tested a hydrogen-powered aircraft engine, which is described as the World’s First for aviation. They had set a new aviation milestone with the world’s first run of a modern aero engine on hydrogen in a test carried out on land earlier this month. The company tested a turboprop fan engine that is used a small regional flights aircraft. Green hydrogen for the tests had been generated using tidal and wind energy from Orkney Islands, Scotland. Rolls-Royce is eventually hoping to conduct a full-scale ground test of a Pearl 15 jet engine.

India celebrates the 58th BSF Raising Day (1st December) in 2022. This is for the first time that the Raising Day Parade of India’s first line of defence is being held in Punjab and the second time outside the national capital. The 58th Raising Day Parade of the Border Security Force (BSF) will be held on December 4 on the Guru Nanak Dev University campus. Formed in 1965, the primary role of the BSF lies in securing the borders of India shared with Bangladesh and Pakistan. The Border Security Force (BSF) comprises Indian armed personnel dedicated to protecting sovereignty and integrity along the Indo-Bangladesh and Indo-Pakistan borders.

The India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA) will enter into force on 29th December 2022. The India-Australia ECTA will enhance bilateral trade in goods and services and create new employment opportunities. Under the agreement, duties on 100 per cent tariff lines are to be eliminated by Australia.

As per provisional estimates released by National Statistical Office (NSO), India’s gross domestic product (GDP) for the July-September quarter (Q2) of the financial year 2022-23 slowed to 6.3 per cent. The GDP saw a growth of 13.5 per cent in the preceding April-June quarter of 2022-23. It was cut down mainly by the poor performance of the manufacturing and mining sectors.

French scientists have revived a 48,500-year-old Zombie Virus buried under a frozen lake in Russia. The European Researchers examined the ancient samples collected from permafrost in the Siberia region of Russia. The scientists revived and characterized 13 new pathogens, what they termed ‘Zombie Viruses’, and found that they remained infectious despite spending many millennia trapped in the frozen ground.

The Union Ministry of Rural Development launched the month-long campaign named ‘Nai Chetna’, as a people’s movement. The campaign is launched by the Ministry of Rural Development to make women, especially in rural areas, aware of their rights and mechanism available to help redress their grievances. It was launched on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on 25th November 2022.

Ministry of External Affairs is organising the ‘International Lusophone Festival’ in partnership with the Indian Council of Cultural Relations and the Goa government. Lusophones are people that speak Portuguese as a native or as a common second language. As part of the festival, workshops on Lusophone music, exhibitions of Goan architecture, Goan handicrafts and Goan furniture, Food and Spirits Festival are being organised.

The Uttar Pradesh Government has appointed IPS Officer Laxmi Singh as the new Noida Police Chief, making her the first woman officer to head a Police Commissionerate in UP. Laxmi Singh who is a 2000-batch officer replaced Alok Singh in Gautam Buddha Nagar and is expected to take a charge on November 30, 2022.
