The sum of 5% of a number and 4% of the other number is 2/3 of the sum of 6% of the first number and 8% of the second. The ratio of the first number to the second is
Let the first number be x and the second number be y.
Accoroding to the question,
[5% of x + 4% of y] = (2/3)[6% of x + 8% of y]
[(5/100)x + (4/100)y] = (2/3)[(6/100)x + (8/100)y]
(5x + 4y)/100 = (2/3)[(6x + 8y)/100]
15x + 12y = 12x + 16y
15x – 12x = 16y – 12y
3x = 4y
x/y = 4/3
Therefore required ratio = 4 : 3.
