The Sivaratri festival, locally called ‘Herath Festival’ is an important Hindu community festival celebrated in Jammu and Kashmir. During the festival, Walnuts and fish dishes are cooked and eaten by the community members. At the end of the festival, a day is observed as ‘Salaam’, which entailed celebrations with the Muslim brethren. During such festivals shops run by Muslims provide paraphernalia for puja.
