A vendor sells 60 percent of apples he had and throws away 15 percent of the remainder. Next day he sells 50 percent of the remainder and throws away the rest. What percent of his apples does the vendor throw?
Let the number of apples be 100.
He sells 60% of apples on first day = (60/100)*100 = 60 apples
Remaining apples = 100 – 60 = 40
He throws 15% of the remaining apples = (15/100)*40 = 6 apples
So, remaining apples on the first day = 40 – 6 = 34 apples
Next day he throws 50% of the remaining 34 apples = (50/100)*34 = 17 apples
Therefore, number of thrown apples = 6 + 17 = 23 apples
Percentage of thrown apples = (23/100)*100 = 23%.
